6 decisive criteria for online dating

Unlike in the past when people met through mutual friends or in public places, today it is very different since the digital age offers many ways to meet potential partners through the Internet.

Dating online is much more common and socially acceptable, but what criteria do people use?

Here are 6 criteria that sociologists believe would be decisive for online dating

1. THE SIZE DIFFERENCE

Women tend to choose partners who are taller than themselves, while men tend to prefer the opposite. Women consider a taller man to be more manly and mature, while men feel more confident and strong with partners who are shorter than them.

2. AGE IS AN IMPORTANT FACTOR

Research has indicated that, especially for women, age is a major concern in online dating. It’s completely understandable that someone in their 50s would be rejected by someone in their 20s. The age gap is too big for most, and usually comes with several important differences that most people won’t want to deal with.

3. THE WEIGHT AND TYPE OF BODY

The men included in this research seldom chose a woman who had weight problems. Would it be superficial? Perhaps. Maybe the person’s weight is seen as a clear sign that they are more likely to have health problems, who knows? We are drawn to what we like and if the partners are not what you want then it is very easy to pass their profile.

4. NO PROFILE PHOTO? NO CHANCE

Profiles without photos have no chance of success. Blind dating is a thing of the past and let’s face it: appearance matters. It may sound superficial, but there is no way to argue the truth. They may hide their face because of their appearance or to avoid getting caught by their partner. Either way, people immediately see this as a warning no matter the reason.

5. HAVE A HABIT OF DRINKING

Alcohol consumption, while completely legal, can seriously affect the success of one’s dating profile. If you party too much and post it on your profile, viewers might see this as a bad thing. It shows a certain immaturity and it is possible that it will turn into an addiction, and you rarely imagine your future with this kind of person.

6. THE OVERALL APPEARANCE

The image people have chosen to display on their dating profile has been a major factor for everyone. Those with blurry images or neglected surroundings have been passed most of the time. People reacted very negatively to the bad pictures on the profiles. I can’t really blame them for this since on online dating sites the profile picture is their first impression on the person.
