If we really love someone, loyalty should be our watchword

When you love someone, you are not hiding your phone screen.

Even when you are texting because you are afraid of the words that are going to be on the screen. You don’t hide contacts under fake names. You don’t delete messages every day so your partner can never find anything.

If we truly love a person, loyalty should be our watchword:

When you love someone, you don’t download Tinder just to scroll through your options, to imagine what it would be like if you were still single, to see how many matches you can get to boost your confidence. You don’t flirt with others, even if it’s harmless, even if you don’t intend on a date with the person.

When you love someone, you don’t act like you’re still single when you haven’t been for a long time. You don’t lie about your relationship status to make it look like you’re available. You don’t give out your phone number to people who clearly want to sleep with you.

When you love someone, you don’t get drunk to the point of losing all self-control.

When you love someone, you don’t constantly text your attractive exes and friends to have a back-up plan in case your relationship goes down. You don’t make people think they have a chance, even if you’re already in a relationship.

When you love someone, you don’t dance with other people in a club when you know it would make your partner uncomfortable. You are not holding other people’s hands. You don’t kiss other people.

When you love someone, you don’t make your partner jealous by flirting with other people in front of them. You don’t tell him he’s crazy to get mad when you look at other people’s butt. You don’t make him feel like he’s lucky you stayed so long because you have so many other options.

When you love someone, you don’t run after your ex when you have a little argument.

You don’t jump in bed with the first person you see just because you’re upset. You don’t ruin a serious, trust-based relationship for a night of fun.

When you love someone, you aren’t cheating on your partner physically or emotionally, in any significant or subtle way. You don’t risk losing it because of your libido. You don’t hurt her like that. You should hate yourself for hurting him like that.

When you love someone, you don’t take that love for granted. You treat him with kindness. You give him respect. You don’t even think of cheating on him.
